The Bush Family

So, I was originally asked to come over to this family’s home to document Mom, her amazing art work and some head shots for her business.  After thinking about the session, I offered to document her family as well.  I’ve had the pleasure of knowing/getting to know each of her 3 precious kiddos from work and I was dying to get my camera on them.

Fast forward 2 months (heat, rain and crazy schedules kept us in a constant reschedule mode) and Mom finally said “it’s time” in the carpool line last week. I’m so glad we waited!  The light, the temperature…everything came together perfectly!

This is ONE precious and special family and this was one fun and simple session.   We simply “played” in the backyard.  I gathered them up for a few “posed” images but otherwise we just hung out and had a lot of talks.  I’m so excited for Mom to see all of the images that I captured and I hope I’m invited over again one day to play!

Goodman Family….and their Miracle Annie

Sweet Annie at 7 months!  Annie isn’t like most babies, I have photographed in fact at 7 months she is only 13 pounds!  Annie was born at 26 weeks at 1 lb, 6 oz and spend her first 6 months in the hospital.  She is now home and thriving and she is so happy!  Her smiles light up a room and Mom and Dad are over the moon in LOVE with her.  It shows in EVERY SINGLE IMAGE!  I cannot wait to watch this little bit grow!

The Youngblood Family

I was so sad when this sweet family moved away…but they still came back to see little ole ME!  I have photographed these sweet and precious angels since they were newborns and I’m in awe of how beautiful they and grown they are now!  I’ve known Dad since our  high school days and luckily he married up and chose such a sweet and beautiful wife.

Mom described her sweet family as “happy” and she couldn’t have been more right.  They are a such a happy and delightful family.  These girls though…Ava is very reserved and her sweetness just shines in her images.  Abby was a ball of FUN!  If this family is laughing it’s because Abby is around!  Her sass and personality was so obvious!  Thank you all for driving back over to come see me!  I thoroughly enjoyed every second of your session!

This one!  Add a dress that spins and you have ABBY!

And those BLUE EYES!!

Ava has grown into such a beautiful girl!

I LOVE these “action shots.”

Such a sweet family!

The Moore Family

For a photographer, these are the busy times.  Scheduling, planning, prepping cameras and cards, checking and double checking equipment, shooting, uploading, culling, editing, proofing galleries, taking orders, designing Christmas Cards, placing orders and delivering those orders.  All this because I LOVE it!  I love doing this.  Yes, it does take me away from my own family.  My house currently is a disaster area.  There are toys everywhere.  Dinner (salad with Kroger deli fried chicken tenders) is still on the kitchen counter waiting to be cleaned up and my 3-year old is running around eating cookies in her panties!  But I LOVE it!  I keep telling myself, “you can do this…Gatlinburg in a MONTH!!).  With that being said…

This is why I LOVE photography!  The families that I meet and the families who become part of my life!  Saturday I met with 6 fabulous families.  One new family but 5 repeat clients (who have become friends).  6 Families, 17 kids (7 of whom I have photographed them as newborns) who I have had and hope to continue to document their lives.  We now hug at the end of a session and I spend our time together catching up in each other’s lives.  It gives my the warm-fuzzies just reflecting back on it!

This weekend I tried something new…I sent out a survey asking my families a few quick short questions to help me with their session.  And the question I LOVED the most?

In just ONE word, describe your children and how they make you feel when you look at them…

Mom: MY WORLD!

Meet Sweet Baby K

I love newborns!  I really LOVE newborns!  The way they smell, the way their eyelids flutter when they sleep, their little noises, those toes and feet!  EVERYTHING!  I would have to say, newborn sessions are by far my favorite.

Sweet baby K did not disappoint!  She was newborn perfection.  She slept most of the time but she did open her eyes a few times for a few of her images.  This family is over the moon in love with her and I can’t wait to get them all together in the coming weeks for a family session.

Here are a few images from her session….

I LOVE a baby yawn…

This is one of my favorite pieces right now.  My niece had one for her daughter’s newborn session and I had to order one for the studio.  So simple and perfect for little girls.

The Farrior Family

Typically it’s the Mom who books and plans the sessions.  Mom warned me that Dad and Son were less than enthusiastic about our session on Saturday and I promised to make it as painless as possible.  These turned out great despite their apprehensions.  In fact, I think they actually enjoyed it just a little bit!

I couldn’t resist getting these shots of Mom and Dad together.  They looked so good together and when they said they haven’t had pictures taken of them together since their wedding (16 years!), I knew I had to change that.  Aren’t they the cutest?

First Mini Session of the Season is DONE!

As a photographer, my number one goal is to capture your child’s personality in each and every image. I want my clients to look at each and every image that I capture and remember how they felt when that image was shot and when they look at them in the future, I want to have created memories for my clients.  With that being said…I know for a fact that I captured this little man’s personality.

I was H’s teacher last year in preschool so I know those quiet moments (although rare) and I know those crazy moments! He’s the type of kid that you want to love on one moment and pinch him the next!  It was a crazy session that is for sure but I LOVE the images that I captured.  Sweet AB was simply sweet!  And those eyes!  Beautiful!

Pretty Girl!  And THOSE EYES!

They really like each other!  Silly sibling images are the best!

I know…this one is a little out of focus!  He was running full speed at me but I love his expression!  Full of Mischief!

And then he get really sweet 3 minutes later.

Christmas Cards 2017

I officially begin my 2017 Fall/Holiday sessions this afternoon and I’m so excited to meet and spend time with each and every family that has booked a session with me this year!  I am completely booked for 2017 and will begin booking again in January 2018.  I do have a few spots for studio newborns (during the week) but I do not have any weekend dates left.  I MAY open a date in December depending on demand and if I don’t have to use any of my “bad-weather” make-up days.

I’m so excited about my Christmas cards this year!  I am offering many different styles and I’m sure you’ll find one that will fit your family perfectly.  Many of these offer multiple openings for images and all are 2 sided and press printed by a professional photo lab.  All are 5×7 in size and you may choose from several different finishes (pearl, linen, watercolor, semi-gloss and matte).

Pricing for cards will be: $40 for 25; $75 for 50; $100 for 75 and $125 for 100.

Healthy Mexican Street Corn Burrito Bowls.

This one is a definite keeper! I found this recipe on Chelsea’s Messy Apron (http://www.chelseasmessyapron.com/healthy-mexican-street-corn-burrito-bowls/ .  It was easy to put together, tastes awesome, healthy, easy cleanup and there are leftovers for tomorrow!  What could be better??!!??
Ingredients
Burrito Bowls
  • 2 Cups cooked brown rice.  I used my Instant Pot
  • 2 cans (15 ounces EACH) sweet corn
  • 2 red bell peppers, thinly sliced; seeds removed.  Red bell peppers this week were $1.79 each so I used green peppers.
  • 1/2 bunch fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon jalapeño, diced ( I skipped this)
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 can (15 ounces) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 large avocado
Dressing
  • 1/2 cup KRAFT Avocado Oil Mayo  ( I used sour cream LITE)
  • 2 large limes, separated
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons Sriracha ( I did not use this)
  • Salt and Pepper

Instructions

  1.  Prepare the brown rice according to package directions. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Meanwhile, make the dressing. Combine all of the dressing ingredients: the mayo, 3 tablespoons lime juice, 1/2 teaspoon lime zest, ground cumin, paprika, chili powder, Sriracha, and a generous pinch of salt and pepper (to taste.) Whisk and place in the fridge while you prep the remainder of the bowls.

3.  Sauté corn kernels in a preheated large cast-iron skillet 3 to 5 minutes, stirring constantly, until kernels are lightly charred over high heat. Remove to a bowl.

4.  Add the pepper and again sauté over high heat stirring occasionally until lightly charred and crisp tender. Remove to a bow

5.Season the corn and pepper with salt and freshly ground pepper to taste. Let cool to room temperature and then add in the chopped cilantro, chopped green onions, diced jalapeño, and 1/2 teaspoon paprika. Add a squeeze of lime juice and toss.

6.  Drain and rinse the black beans.

7.  Assemble the bowls: Fill the bottom of 4 bowls with even amounts of the brown rice. Add even amounts of black beans and the corn + red pepper mixture to each bowl.

8.Thinly slice the avocado and divide evenly among the bowls.

9.  Top with the prepared dressing, another squeeze of lime as desired and enjoy immediately.
